What is Cross Docking?
Cross Docking is a transportation service & logistics procedure where products are distributed directly to a customer with minimal to zero handling or storage time.
It takes place in a distribution docking terminal; usually consisting of vehicles & dock doors on two (inbound & outbound) sides with minimal storage space. The process involves receiving products through an inbound dock & then transferring them across the dock to the outbound transportation dock.
The process can increase supply chain logistics efficiency for products that have already been packaged & sorted.
